It questions how directors have staged the great story of the Battle of Karbalâ to define the war and support the national mobilization between 1980 and 1988, and drew upon a Shii imaginary both narratively and formally, while other directors used references detached from any religious link. The paper then focuses on how the war against IS generated new uses of the “Karbala paradigm”, as well as innovating image theories. |
