Summary:OBJECTIVE: To study the perception of women with breast cancer about the social support network and its help in coping with chemotherapy treatment. METHOD: Descriptive and qualitative study carried out with 11 women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. A recorded interview was conducted with the use of a script. The interpretation of the data was performed through Bardin’s Thematic Analysis and the Social Network Theory. RESULTS: The following categories were identified: Social Network Support in coping with chemotherapy: Primary and secondary social support network; Perceptions of support received during chemotherapy. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The social support network is perceived as a contributor in coping with chemotherapy and its impacts through the exchange of support in instrumental, face-to-face, and emotional conjuncture. The women identify that the support offered by primary and secondary networks through incentives, motivation and physical presence reduce their fears and anxieties related to treatment.
