description The article substantiates the relevance of the analysis of etymonyms in solving linguistic and cross-cultural problems of teaching Russian as a foreign language. Attention is drawn to the difficulties of foreign students in perception of the Russian word. The importance of a methodical understanding of the presentation of the lexical material based on the etymological principle is stressed. It is assumed that the analysis of etymonyms will allow to present new lexical material, to systematize the material studied by students, to consolidate the knowledge of students in field of vocabulary. The benefits of treatment to the analysis of etymonyms in the study of Russian vocabulary are revealed. It is concluded that the inclusion of etymonyms in study materials on vocabulary allows to take into account the personal and communicative aspects of linguistic adaptation of foreign students. Scientific novelty and practical significance of research results is seen in the fact that etymonyms are considered from the point of view of the purpose of their linguistic and cross-cultural values for students, positive learning effects. On the original author’s material the types of exercises are demonstrated that are appropriate to use in working with foreign students. It is concluded that the systematic involvement of ethymonyms as educational material will help to overcome the communicative and psychological difficulties of foreign students studying the vocabulary of the Russian language, which meets the modern requirements of education in the field of “Linguistics.”
