Description
Summary:The aim of this semi-experimental study was to evaluate the effect of 8 weeks of regional dance on cardiovascular endurance of mentally retardedstudents. For this purpose, 20 educable, mentally retarded female students (aged between 8 and 12 and available from specials schools of Kermanshah city) were studied in control (n=10, weight 41.70±16.10 kg, height 145.30±13.60 cm) and experimental (n=10, weight 31.10±8.60 kg, height 134.20±12.70 cm) groups. The experimental group danced 45-60 min. per session, 3 sessions a week for 2 months. Subjects’ cardiovascular endurance was evaluated with Harvard Step Test in pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Levin test and dependent and independent t test using SPSS software-21 (P≤0.05). The results indicated that cardiovascular endurance of experimental group (27.00±2.1) was 10.6% better than control group (24.40±2.7) (P=0.029). According to these findings, regional dance can be an effective instrument to increase mentally retarded students’ motivation behind following up the training with appropriate pressure to develop cardiovascular endurance.
