Summary:Referring to crashworthiness design specifications and guidelines of metro train and light rail vehicle of domestic andforeign, by use of the finite element software Hypermesh and LS-DYNA, the process was simulated of one metro train impacting thesame stationary train face to face at the speed of 20 km/h. The mechanical properties of couplers and buffers, couplers’ failure and fallingoffbehaviors were simulated in the model. The crashworthiness, such as the escape space, the longitudinal average acceleration and so on,was evaluated. The result showed that the crashworthiness of this metro train was consistent with the requirements.
