description | Cysticercosis, a zoonotic disease caused by Taenia species parasites, can manifest in various clinical presentations, including orbital involvement. Extraocular orbital cysticercosis commonly affects the superior muscle complex and recti, often resembling subacute orbital myositis. Our case of a six-year-old boy underscores the importance of recognizing this condition. He presented with pain, redness, swelling and ptosis, leading to a diagnostic journey involving ocular examination, imaging and investigations. Treatment with oral steroids and anthelminthic medication was initiated, with clinical improvement upon regular follow-up. This case highlights the challenge of differentiating cysticercosis from other orbital pathologies and underscores the significance of prompt diagnosis and management to prevent ocular morbidity. |
