| description | Although the precise reasons that lead men and women to take the road and travel tens or hundreds of kilometers generally remain unknown, it is undeniable that looking for a work and a consumer market is one of them. Thanks to the reading of notarial deeds recorded at the end of the Middle Ages in Perpignan, we are able to qualify this migration towards the city and bring to light regional specificities of greater or lesser extent, with very characteristic and identifiable migratory currents. Thus, two kinds of work-related migrations oppose and meet at the same time. On the one hand, unskilled workers, ready to perform any task; on the other, specialized craftsmen, requested and sought after by cities. |
