description Poultry slaughterhouse wastewater (PSWW) presents significant environmental challenges due to its high organic content and the discharge of untreated PSWW leads to serious environmental and health concerns, including deoxygenation of rivers, groundwater contamination, eutrophication, and the spread of water-borne diseases. Hence, this review addresses the research gap by providing a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in electrochemical technology (ET) for PSWW treatment, focusing on pollutant removal and resource recovery, specifically clean water, hydrogen gas (H₂), and protein-rich compounds (PRCs). Also, electrocoagulation (EC) and electrooxidation (EO) are highlighted as effective ET methods due to their scalability, cost-effectiveness, and operational simplicity. EC process removed 99 % of turbidity, 99 % of colour, and 85 % of chemical oxygen demand (COD) from PSWW. These results are of practical relevance to the poultry industry, as they suggest that implementing ET significantly enhances wastewater quality, facilitating compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainable water management practices. Furthermore, the integration of ET with other sustainable technologies for comprehensive various wastewater treatment is discussed. By presenting a critical evaluation of ET applications in PSWW treatment, this review aims to support informed decision-making and promote further research in environmental engineering and resource management.
