description In the countryside of Haute Guinée, where family groups are also units of production, the transmission of agricultural knowledge tends to reproduce gender and age inequalities, thus strengthening a hierarchy dominated by elderly men. However, women’s farm groups specialized in market gardening are spaces for women’s emancipation. Through two case studies concerning the yam production in the village of Tintioulèn and the urban market gardening in the surroundings of Kankan, this article analyses how the introduction of innovations proposed by development projects impacts on gender and age relationships. New dynamics tend to transform market gardening in a more professional and masculine activity and to value the contribution of new professionals, like young agricultural technicians, who have become the privileged intermediaries between farmers and developers.
