Development of a novel power-distributed EMU bogie model for meter-gauge railways

Currently, the bogies available for vehicles operating on meter-gauge railways worldwide support a maximum train speed of 120 km/h and an axle load of up to 15.5 tons. In response to the Belt and Road Initiative and the requirements set forth by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. in the <italic&...

description Currently, the bogies available for vehicles operating on meter-gauge railways worldwide support a maximum train speed of 120 km/h and an axle load of up to 15.5 tons. In response to the Belt and Road Initiative and the requirements set forth by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. in the Guidance for Railway Taking the Lead in Building National Strength in Transportation in the New Era, it is necessitated to conduct research and design to develop new models of high-speed EMUs with heavier axle loads for operation on meter-gauge railways, to facilitate the "going abroad" strategy of China’s railway industry and to meet the users’ demands of potential markets. With a focus on bogies for these power-distributed EMUs, an adaptive structural design was conducted, using the "Fuxing" EMU bogies as the technical basis to leverage their mature design structure, and incorporating environmental conditions and specific requirements of meter-gauge railways as input. Moreover, strength simulative analysis and experiments were completed on bogie parts, to meet the 16-ton axle load requirement. Dynamic performance simulations and experiments using a rolling vibration test rig were also completed, targeting operational speeds of up to 160 km/h. These efforts in bogie development enhance the operational performance of bogies for power-distributed EMUs tailored for meter-gauge railways, and provide a reference for the future trends in the design and technical development of bogies.
