Improved groundwater vulnerability mapping in the Taza aquifer (Northen Morocco) using a modified drastic and GIS- BASED Approach

This study presents an enhanced groundwater vulnerability assessment of the Taza alluvial aquifer (NE Morocco) using a modified DRASTIC model integrated with land cover and a water quality index (WQI) in a GIS environment. Nine hydrogeological parameters were weighted and overlaid to compute the vul...

description This study presents an enhanced groundwater vulnerability assessment of the Taza alluvial aquifer (NE Morocco) using a modified DRASTIC model integrated with land cover and a water quality index (WQI) in a GIS environment. Nine hydrogeological parameters were weighted and overlaid to compute the vulnerability index. The results show that 23.4% and 38.3% of the area exhibit very high and high vulnerability, respectively. The model was validated through nitrate concentration mapping, demonstrating strong spatial correlation (R = 0.997). These results provide a robust decision-support tool for groundwater protection and planning.
