Description
Summary:One of the most important health problems in the world, especially in developing countries, is the spread of multidrug-resistant foodborne pathogens. Such resistant pathogens can spread as an epidemic due to enhanced resistance against therapeutic antibiotics and/or the antibiotics used for growth promotion in livestock. Salmonella enterica strains can cause gastroenteritis leading to more complicated disorders in humans. Contaminated food can quickly spread the pathogen to a larger population, resulting in an epidemic. This review summarizes the antibiotic susceptibility patterns of Salmonella enterica strains isolated from food.
