¿Por qué la escritura de Henry James es adecuada para la expresión operística? ¿En qué medida tienen éxito las “transmutaciones semióticas” (Jakobson, 1959: 223) de su narrativa en formas operítisticas? ¿Qué cuestiones principales destacan en las traducciones extranjeras de los libretos? En primer lugar indagaremos en las razones por las que los textos de Henry James han resultado ser una atractiva fuente para la ópera contemporánea. Después nos centraremos en la versiones operísticas de The Turn of the Screw y Owen Wingrave, considerando aspectos de su traslado de los relatos a las formas operísticas. Por último, se examinarán los desafíos de una traducción francesa de estas óperas para el formato DVD. Trataremos estos temas y cuestionaremos si lo que Paul Ricoeur llama “la construction du comparable” (2004: 66) puede tener éxito en la ópera.
