Geodiversity is an almost absent topic in discussions involving the Amazon, supporting the false idea that landforms and rocks are robust, not requiring management or protection of their values. Therefore, the objective of this study was to introduce the potential of geodiversity, especially its geosystemic attributes, as the structural basis for the consolidation of public policies that involve the importance of geotourism, scientific promotion and dissemination, and territorial and socio-environmental development of the Carajás Region. To this end, the elaboration of thematic cartography was carried out in the delimitation of distinct geomorphological units: Plateaus, Lowered Plateaus, Araguaia Depression and Araguaia Fluvial Plain, and the aerial photogrammetric survey made it possible to identify and characterize areas with high potential for geomorphosites: (1) Mirante; (2) Engravings, and (3) Pedra Riscada. The results show the vast potential of geodiversity with scientific, educational, scenic, and cultural value. Data on geodiversity is still incipient in the region, requiring the establishment of programs and public policies for knowledge and management of geodiversity components, and strengthening environmental and territorial planning actions alongside geoconservation strategies. |
