Summary:The essay examines the mechanisms of women’s inclusion and exclusion from public administration during the transitional phase that followed World War I in Venezia Giulia. Through the personal files of female civil servants, the administrative, legislative and cultural transformations that women workers faced are analyzed. Central to the research turn out to be national, political and issues related to pertinence and citizenship in a multi-ethnic area, characterized by the presence of Slovenes, Croats and Austrians as well.
