Description
Summary:Administration of a drug to a pregnant woman presents a challenging task for the treating physician. One must consider the altered physiological mechanism of pregnancy and fetus which can be affected due to use of some drugs. Most medicine taken by a pregnant woman cross the placenta and reach the fetal blood stream. Though the volume of drug administered as eye drops is low, the amount reach to fetal blood stream is negligible many times. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends labelling of drug products based on the level of risk the drug poses to the fetus and is followed worldwide.
