Summary:This article aims to discuss the evasion on a distance learning degree program in mathematics, from its students’ perspective. It is a qualitative research, and its data were collected primarily through interviews with freshmen students, face-to-face tutors and center directors. Based on the data, it was concluded that the causes of evasion, directly linked to the program, are associated with the difficulty of adjusting to the method and to mathematics itself. In addition, it was possible to infer that many problems faced in this program are common to those offered in a classroom mode. Therefore, further analysis regarding this evasion, which considers other aspects besides the educational mode, must be performed so as to analyze its main causes, assess its consequences, and rethink proposals so these actions are implemented seeking changes to this reality and not merely reiterate its high rates.
