description Air source heat pump, a high efficiency, energy conservation and environmental protection device, is in prospect of wide application and market value. But the unstable performance and lower coefficient of performance (COP) in low ambient temperature restrain the promotion and application of air source heat pump products. This paper analyzed the disadvantages of air source heat pump in low temperature environment through the review of both domestic and international investigations on system improvement in low temperature environment. Besides, the development and trend of air source heat pump is also proposed based on the latest research progresses in the aspects of new alternative refrigerant, the combined air source heat pump with phase change materials as well as the development of new heat pump system, respectively.
