Summary:Fertility status of some calcareous soil in Nineveh governorate North Iraq. were evalued studying K buffering capacity using Beckett method. The thermodynamic parameter included intensity factor, (DK) amount of adsorbed K as quantity factor <br /> (PBCK) and free energy (-∆G), The results showed (ARK<sub>e)</sub> ranged between 28-353 (mole.L<sup>-1</sup>) and 71-355 (mole.L<sup>-1</sup>)<sup>- 1/2</sup>without and with the addition of sulfur respectively. The results for K- desorption ranged 102-28 (mole.L<sup>-1</sup>)<sup>-1/2</sup> and 112-68 (mole.L<sup>-1</sup>)<sup>-1/2</sup> for the some trend mentioned. potassium potential Buffering Capacity (PBCK) were ranged between (201-31),(236-1483) after adsorption experiment and (239 -169), (146-2469) C. mole.K (mole.L)<sup>-1/2</sup> after desorption experiment for treatment, without and with sulfur respectively. The results free for  energy of potassium replacement ranged between (-3480,-3342), and (-3339,-4292),(-4066 -3480) and (-4022, -2954) Cal.mole<sup>-1</sup> for potassium adsorption and desorption after sulfur application respectively. The result showed sulfur has a significant increasing on potassium availiabity parameter. Accordingly, the study revealed that sulfur has a singifant effect on K availabity.
