description Oral cancer is a global health concern due to its increasing incidence and mortality rates, despite conventional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Biotechnology has made significant progress in the management of oral cancer. This essay explores how these advancements are transforming treatment, offering improved outcomes and enhanced quality of life for patients. Targeted therapies, like cetuximab, disrupt specific pathways in cancer cells, inhibiting their proliferation while minimizing damage to healthy cells. This differs from traditional chemotherapy, which has a nonspecific impact. Immunotherapy, using checkpoint inhibitors like pembrolizumab and nivolumab, enhances the body's immune response against oral cancer cells, particularly in cases resistant to conventional treatment. Gene therapy holds promise in correcting genetic abnormalities that contribute to tumor growth or enhancing the immune system's ability to eradicate cancer cells. Oncolytic viruses and CRISPR-Cas9 are among the tools leading the way in personalized interventions. Liquid biopsies, which analyze circulating tumor cells and biomarkers, provide a non-invasive method for diagnosing and monitoring oral cancer. Integration with advanced bioinformatics and artificial intelligence enables precision medicine tailored to individual tumors. Collectively, these advancements offer hope for transforming oral cancer into a manageable condition. Achieving this goal requires collaborative efforts and continued exploration to optimize treatment effectiveness and elevate patient survival rates.
