Description
Summary:The purpose of the article is to demonstrate the contribution of F. P. Shevchenko in the study of social and political problems of the history of Ukraine of the XVII-XX centuries and development of theoretical and methodological issues of historical science. The research methodology is based on the principles of objectivity, impartiality, dialectical logic; the method of retrospective analysis of official documents and personal archive documents of F. Shevchenko is used, as well as the method of historiographical discourse of his scientific heritage. Scientific novelty. The famous Ukrainian historian F. Shevchenko is one of the extraordinary representatives of the intelligentsia in the USSR and Ukraine, when monoideology and monomethodology reigned in science. The study proves that the partocratic chains prevented him from fully realizinghis intellectual potential. Conclusions. In the wide range of his scientific interests, topics related to the Ukrainian Cossacks occupied an important place. Researching the National Liberation War of the Ukrainian people of 1648-1654, he positively evaluated its results and the activities of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, realizing that for trying to act outside the Soviet Marxist-Leninist canons, historians fell under the repressive "rink" of the powerful. F. Shevchenko is an example of dedication to the profession, great efficiency, determination and moral and psychological endurance, which deserves to be emulated.
