Description
Summary:Abstract: We describe analysis and mapping procedures for a wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) survey using turkey sightings by deer hunters. Population indices developed from randomly collected turkey observation data were summarized by turkey management units (TMUs) composed of groups of similar antlerless‐deer‐hunting permit areas. Menu‐driven database routines and a computerized geographic information system (GIS) were used to convert survey data into maps. Filtering turkey location information by number of turkeys observed provided density information for producing range maps.
