| Summary: | OBJECTIVE: To characterize sick leave associated with COVID-19 among Brazilian Army soldiers serving in Recife. METHODS: A cross-sectional study in which the absolute and relative frequencies of the following variables were computed: gender, age group, level of education, type of military organization, number of infected family members, hospitalization, comorbidities, use of narcotics, vaccination and psychological follow-up. A bivariate analysis to identify the variables associated with sick leave and the chi-square test. Level of significance: 5%. RESULTS: Of the 197 military personnel who were absent from duty due to a positive test (N=174), 88.3% were male; 36% (N=71) were aged between 18 and 30; 60.9% (N=120) had higher education; 57.9% (N=114) were in operational-type units; 59.4% (N=117) had lower ranks; 46.7% (N=92) were not vaccinated; 7.7% (N=47) had some comorbidity. CONCLUSIONS: Army officers and female soldiers were more likely to take time off work. Those with comorbidities, those who were not vaccinated, those of a higher age group and those with a higher level of education were more likely to be absent due to positive testing. |
