A re-examination of the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in China

This paper tests the causal relationship between energy use and economic growth during the period of 1978–2022, utilizing a model based on the production function with GDP, energy use, capital, and labor as inputs. This study tests the Granger causality in energy use and economic growth in China. To...

description This paper tests the causal relationship between energy use and economic growth during the period of 1978–2022, utilizing a model based on the production function with GDP, energy use, capital, and labor as inputs. This study tests the Granger causality in energy use and economic growth in China. To examine the Granger causality among the variables, authors use a vector error correction model (VECM). The results imply that there is an unidirectional causality but not vice versa. Therefore, a policy implication is that Chinese government can get the goal of energy conservation and carbon emissions decrease.
