| Summary: | This study investigates the removal of gentamicin from aqueous solutions using polypyrrole (PPy) and its polymer-based composites. PPy and its composites were synthesized under various laboratory conditions and applied as adsorbents in batch experiments to evaluate their efficiency in removing gentamicin. Key operational parameters—including contact time, temperature, adsorbent dosage, pH, and adsorption isotherms—were systematically examined. Gentamicin concentrations were measured before and after treatment, and the physicochemical properties of the most effective composite were characterized using SEM, FESEM, FTIR, BET, XRD, and other analytical techniques. Among the tested materials, the polypyrrole–polyethylene glycol (PPy–PEG) composite demonstrated the highest removal efficiency, achieving 22.5 % removal at a PEG dosage of 2 g/L. The polypyrrole–polyvinyl alcohol (PPy–PVA) composite showed a removal efficiency of 18.75 % at the same concentration. SEM analysis of the PPy–PEG composite revealed enhanced structural uniformity and particle cohesion. The highest gentamicin removal was observed at pH 3, with particularly favorable performance at pH 1, and the optimal contact time was determined to be 30 min. |
