Summary:ObjectiveAs an important index to measure the performance of engine's noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), the dynamic characteristics of the timing belt drive system are great significance to research on the engine timing system.MethodsThe research object was the timing belt drive system of seven-pulley engines. By applying the elliptical pulley technology in the crankshaft pulley,the multi-body dynamics model of the timing belt drive system at different eccentricity was established. The influence law on the dynamic performance of the timing system at different crankshaft speeds was explored by analyzing the belt tooth stress, transverse vibration, camshaft angular velocity, torque and meshing interference fluctuation.ResultsThe results show that the non-circular timing belt system with 1 mm eccentricity has the uniform stress distribution, small vibration amplitude, low transmission error, less interference, stable operation and excellent dynamic performance in a certain range. It lays foundation for researching on the dynamic performance of non-circular timing belt drive systems at different crankshaft speeds.
