| Summary: | The impact of COVID-19 on the lives of populations during the current health crisis represents an increased risk of increased violence, particularly against women and girls. However, this state of affairs found a prevalence of gender-based violence throughout the country (Guinea). Thus, this study is carried out to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on violence against women in Guinea. The results show that 35% of respondents believe that violence against women in the household has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. This rate was 19 and 20% in 2020 according to the results of UN Women (2020), respectively. The economic difficulties caused by restrictions and stress, coupled with the curfew and inactivity are the main factors having contributed significantly to the increase in cases of GBV in Guinea. The mixed methodological approach was used in greater Conakry. From a sample chosen on the basis of the prevalence of COVID-19 and geographical representativeness, thanks to statistics provided by the National Health Security Agency. Data were collected from 192 people including 167 women. These are (local/religious authorities, gender defense and promotion NGOs, law enforcement services and forensic medicine). The data were subjected to the triangulation analysis procedure which consisted of grouping the ideas according to whether they overlap or confront each other. |
