Developing of drought tolerant common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) from inter genepool crosses with genotypes from different origins (Andean and Mesoamerican)

Drought is the main cause of low productivity in field conditions, and like most of methods to counter; they are costly and unaffordable for low-income farmers, the plant breeding has found the most economical option to increase or stabilize the common bean production under drought conditions. description Drought is the main cause of low productivity in field conditions, and like most of methods to counter; they are costly and unaffordable for low-income farmers, the plant breeding has found the most economical option to increase or stabilize the common bean production under drought conditions. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to obtain bean lines derived from inter- gene pool crosses, in order to select lines tolerant to water stress. In the F5:6 generation, the top 54 elite lines in terms of performance and favorable agronomic traits, from 492 harvested lines. In addition, they were coded as DAB lines (Drought Andean Bean). These 54 elite lines were evaluated in yield trials in two conditions of drought, being able to elucidate the DAB 18, 49 DAB, DAB 52 and DAB 3 lines, showed a higher performance with a range of 2506.2 to 2682.3 kg. ha -1 in the two drought conditions evaluated, which brings genotypes with traits of importance to be multiplied and distributed to farmers, in addition to obtaining parental lines to generate new plant breeding programs to improve drought tolerant lines.
