description Pterygium refers to conjunctival or fibrovascular growth over the sclera and onto the cornea, it occurs most commonly in the nasal aspect of the interpalpebral exposure zone. Pathologically Pterygium is characterised by elastoid degeneration of subepithelial tissue and destruction of Bowman's membrane. Several techniques are available for the excision of Pterygium, which include the bare sclera, autograft, antimetabolites, radiation and using amniotic membranes. But the recurrence after surgical excision is a risk and recurred lesions grows more aggressively than the primary lesions. This new approach 'radical excision; removes all parts and extensions of it so there is very minimal incidence of recurrence.
