Description
Summary:In order to identify molecular markers associated with genes for horizontal resistance to crown rust in oat, a population consisting of 158 F8 recombinant inbred lines from a cross of ‘MN841801-1 × Noble-2’ was mapped with 112 RFLP loci. A linkage map was constructed into 17 linkage groups and 23 unlinked loci. Disease resistance was evaluated on adult plants in greenhouse and field. Three horizontal resistance QTLs, termed PRQ1, PRQ2 and PRQ3, located on linkage groups C, P and N, respectively, were identified for area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) and for percentage of pustule area versus total leaf area (PPA) in field and together explained 27% of the phenotypic variance. Two of these QTLs (PRQ1 and PRQ2) were identified in the greenhouse tests and explained 32% and 26% of the phenotypic variance when assessed as AUDPC and PPA.
