| Summary: | The article is based on a fieldwork in a laboratory where a crisis occurred during the closure process of a scientific controversy. The closure was played out at the scientific, institutional and relational levels, and involved an ethical reflexivity that integrates both an institutional regulation of scientific integrity and interdependent injunctions that organize the professional activity of researchers. Two major issues have emerged: reputation and loyalty. While reputation mobilizes social evaluations, loyalty concerns an interpersonal moral value. This case illustrates the implementation of moral economies by a collective and the difficulty of making strong reflexivity work in science in a context of increased competition between teams. |
