Description
Summary:The words, referred to by different terms in different studies and recently discussed under the name of ‘particle’, are independent elements that do not have a dictionary meaning on their own, but serve to complement the meaning of the words, word groups or sentences with additional meanings such as explanation, doubt, acceptance, mockery, limitation, strengthening, emphasis by establishing a relationship between words within the sentence structure, and have significant importance in grammatical fields as well as in the linguistic transfers between Turkic dialects. In Kazakh Turkic, these words are referred to by the terms demevlik and demevlik şılav and, due to the characteristics outlined, they belong to a different category than postpositions and are classified under kömekşi sözder (auxiliary words) in Kazakh grammar. Such words cannot be sentence elements on their own, they provide additional meaning to individual words, phrases or sentences. In addition to conveying emotional meaning, these linguistic structures also function with modality or as enclitics within words, word groups, or sentences, holding a significant place in the overall meaning of the text through their diverse functions. Kazakh linguists have examined these linguistic units in terms of their meanings and have conducted classification studies based on their functions. In this article, the functions of the word qoy/ğoy, which is among the linguistic units used in Kazakh Turkic mentioned above, as well as the meanings they add to the words, word groups, and sentences in which they appear, will be analyzed from the perspectives of Kazakh linguists and supported with examples derived through textual analysis from Kazakh grammar books and various works written in Kazakh Turkic.
