| description | While it aims to emancipate individuals, human rights education (HRE) – as institutionalized by international organizations – seems to maintain a pre-established institutional power relationship (Coysh 2017, Keet 2017, Keet & Zembylas 2019). The institutionalization of HRE may refer to the promotion of a political discourse that invisibilizes other conceptions of the human condition. The critical literature on HRE leads us to reflect on the conditions of possibility and the implementation of a critical human rights education that guarantees cultural pluralism. To meet this research ambition, the methodology used is based on a theoretical corpus: first, we present the critical literature on HRE. Then, by focusing on the research carried out in science of education, especially on the relationship between epistemological and ethical postures in pedagogy, we present the epistemological conditions of possibilities for teaching human rights that can be critical and that also guarantees cultural pluralism. This proposal will highlight how interdisciplinarity (here between law and educational sciences) is inherent to the process of deconstructing the coloniality of human rights teaching. |
