description The debate around the care given to children and dependent adults is more oriented by feminists on the significant amount of time that women devote to these activities compared to men and also on the fact that these activities are not considered in national accounting systems. This article differs from this approach. He seeks to see if poverty is associated with this care. The methodology of the study is based on the one hand on the mobilization of data from the National Time Use Survey in Senegal (ENETS), and on the other hand on bivariate and multivariate analyzes relating to sociodemographic and socio-economic variables. The results obtained highlight the relationships between poverty and care. People from poor households participate and devote more time to caring for children, dependent adults and also spend more time on housework. They live mainly in rural areas, are women, have a low level of education, live in uncomfortable housing, and do not often have paid employment. Unpaid care work can slow down women economic empowerment. It does not allow women to participate in the labour force and that it perpetuates poverty.
