| Summary: | Al-Ghazālī (d. 505 H), in his work Iḥyā ʿUlūm al-Dīn, is one of the earliest figures to mention the concept of Maqāṣid al-Sunnah using the term Maqāṣid al-Nubuwwah to describe the objective of legislating female circumcision. In contrast to Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, there is still less discussion on Maqāṣid al-Sunnah. So, the question is: is Maqāṣid al-Sunnah a new discipline that exists independently of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, or is it a part of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah?Hence, this study critically analyze the integration of Maqāṣid al-Sunnah within the framework of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah. Additionally, the study examined the writings of classical and contemporary scholars in their use of the term Maqāṣid al-Sunnah and the contexts in which it is employed. The research employed the documentation approach for classical and contemporary works, as well as academic articles for data collection. Furthermore, content analysis was used to extract significant findings from the gathered materials. The results of the study suggested that Maqāṣid al-Sunnah is a term or field that is part of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah rather than a term or field distinct from it and it is a component within the framework of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah. Similarly, the discussion from the perspective of Maqāṣid al-Sunnah offers a more precise and targeted comprehension. The study contributes to aid the researchers in obtaining a clear concept of the position and concept of Maqāṣid al-Sunnah. |
