description On 1 January 2024, a new version of subsidy policy for new energy vehicle purchase was implemented in France, which directly connects the new energy vehicle subsidies with carbon footprints. This paper introduces the background, main content, and requirements of the policy and compares the carbon footprint of a specific model produced in different countries. It is discovered that the carbon footprint values of new energy vehicles produced and assembled in China are significantly higher than those in developed countries, including France, Germany, the United States, and Japan, resulting in extremely low environmental scores, which has made these models unable to obtain car purchase subsidies from the French government. Based on this, this paper analyzes and discusses the impact of this policy on China’s new energy vehicle industry, and puts forward four targeted suggestions.
