| Summary: | François Ruy-Vidal's publishing history began with the "Livres d'Harlin Quist"; between 1966 and 1972 he published more than thirty picture books in a framework created in collaboration with the American Harlin Quist. It continued with various publishers, including Grasset between 1973 and 1976 where he created the young adult division. His career as an innovative publisher demonstrates his manner of questioning the prevalent model within a collection. At the end of the 1960s, With the Livres d'Harlin Quist," he was first led to challenge the foundations of children's collections and their contents. When he returned to the collection under the Grasset publishing house, it was to create a quite innovative collection for the very young children, the collection "3 Pommes." François Ruy-Vidal now has the role of collection director at Grasset. Though he defines this position as that of a designer, he must now confront his powers as that of a publisher. This study of François Ruy-Vidal's publishing career is based on entirely new material: his recently filed archives. |
