| Summary: | The main purpose of this article is to have an understanding of the risk of natural disasters due to flooding events in Paraná in the relationship between hazard and vulnerability, following the conceptual model of risk. To analyze the hazard and the vulnerability of the State of Paraná to the occurrence of flooding, the mapping of events, from their spatial and temporal probability susceptibility to the vulnerability of the exposed population have become indispensable. This work was developed methodologically, in two stages: the first, with the analysis of danger in the state of Parana from studies on the likelihood of floods and susceptibility to the occurrence of these events; the second, with vulnerability analysis, consisting of studies of the exposed population and assets exposed to events and social vulnerability of the state's municipalities. All variables of the conceptual risk model used in this study were worked through indicators and indexes that served to differentiate the municipalities according to their susceptibility, likelihood, exposed population, exposed goods and social vulnerability. These amounts were used to form other derivatives indices for the analysis of hazard and vulnerability and, finally, the risk index to the occurrence of natural disasters related to flooding in the state of Paraná. |
