Description
Summary:Published in 1609, Patrona de Madrid restituida is the first Salas Barbadillo’s work, opening his literary career with an extensive poem whose narrative material is the devotion to the Virgin of Atocha. The poem has a curious peculiarity. In its 733 real octaves, the author put 258 verses in disorder to constitute the Tratado poético de la esfera: a traditional description of the universe which shows his scientific knowledge and his use of the repertoire known as “cosmic poetry”. This article proposes the reconstruction of the text, as there isn’t a modern edition, and a comment identifying the authors and the other works (classical authors, Sacrobosco, Torquato Tasso) that could inspire its elaboration.
