| description | The purpose of the study is to determine the role of various religious traditions in shaping the unique cultural legacy of Central Asia. The paper is based on historical, comparative and, cultural methods, which allow analysing the influence of various religious teachings on public institutions, cultural norms, and architectural heritage of the region. In the process of Islamisation of Central Asia, along with Islam, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and various local beliefs continued to exist, which has a substantial impact on the cultural development of the region. Islam, spreading through madrassas and Sufi brotherhoods, established new social and legal norms while integrating elements of Buddhist architecture and Zoroastrian rituals. Christianity, especially in the form of Nestorianism, also played a role in cultural life, integrating into educational and economic processes. Zoroastrianism has been preserved in some communities, maintaining customs related to the cult of fire and the worship of the natural elements. Buddhism, which was especially widespread during the 6th-9th centuries, influenced architectural forms, artistic traditions, and philosophical teachings, which were partially assimilated by Islamic culture over time. The diversity of religious traditions has contributed to the cultural enrichment and creation of a unique legacy of Central Asia, which historians and religious scholars continue to explore. |
