Summary:   Harmonic content is one of the most important indexes in AC drive locomotive and EMUs. It firstly introduced four types of on-board passive filters and their working principles, such as series inductance, LCL filter, RC filter, RLC filter and so on. Then it indicated the basic principles and control methods of the on-board active filters. Moreover, it focused on analyzing new techniques about the grid-side converters, such as multi-strategies, SHEPWM, power electronic traction transformer and so on. At last, it summarized the advantages or disadvantages of the means to optimize the harmonic in AC drive locomotive and EMUs and pointed out the application prospect.
