| description | The adaptive reuse of heritage buildings is a multifaceted process influenced by various factors that shape the building's future and efficiency. While much attention has been given to evaluating factors affecting the pre-implementation phase, there is a notable lack of focus on the post-adaptation phase. This study aims to address this gap by examining the effects of new functions on building performance optimization and evaluating the current status of reused heritage buildings in Sulaymaniyah City.
Nine heritage buildings were selected as case studies, and a framework for evaluating their performance effectiveness was developed based on existing literature. Data was collected through site visits, observations, and questionnaires administered to different users to gauge their opinions on the buildings' performance. The study yielded qualitative insights into the formulation of an evaluation framework tailored to the local cultural and urban context, as well as quantitative assessments of the adaptation process and its impact on building performance.
The findings underscore the importance of performance evaluation in identifying strengths and weaknesses in adaptive reuse projects. Moving forward, continued evaluation will be essential for preserving the authenticity, integrity, and continuity of heritage buildings while ensuring the compatibility of new uses over time. Enhancing understanding of evaluation methods can contribute to refining adaptive reuse processes and optimizing building performance. |
