Summary: | This article treats neither the early modern history nor the contemporary history of the Comoro Islands, but aims to study the earlier periods by correlating and comparing three types of documents despite the inherent difficulties of doing so. Archaeology provides information on the origin of artifacts but cannot inform us on their transporters. It is impossible to say whether those who brought objects to a place were the same as those who lived there. Moreover, although chronicles and oral traditions can help, they may also present some traps due to manipulative practices used by the authors to their advantage. Nonetheless, a gleam of association and articulation sometimes shows through. We then have the impression of detecting correspondences between commercial, cultural and matrimonial movements. |
