description | The notion of bioregion implies a profound transformation of our geopolitical culture. It implies that the prefix geo- is just as important as the radical politic when it comes to thinking about our presence in territories. The bioregion is an imagined order that fully considers the living, the soil and the climatic cycles of a place in relation to the fact of being part of it. This is not a project, but a historical imperative that will inevitably be triggered by the cascading ecological and social crises associated with global warming, biodiversity loss, massive pollution, ensuing social tensions, energy and mineral scarcity... Governments will have their hands full, and will be unable to meet emergency needs. This will necessarily lead to an overhaul of traditional political thinking. Consequently, the role of governing political parties and established political assemblies will be redefined. We can already imagine and prepare for this. |
