Summary:In order to guarantee the energy absorption performance of electric locomotive energy absorbing device, a computer crashsimulation based on LS-DYNA software was done, and the most suitable crash box shape for the locomotive was found out with comparativeanalysis of energy absorption characteristics of different crash boxes with different geometric parameters. According to the different crashspeeds, a crash box’s crash sensibility analysis was completed. Whole locomotive crash simulation with energy absorbing device composed ofthe crash boxes and coupler device was done, results of which showed that the energy absorbing device had a good energy absorptionperformance.
