Description
Summary:Myopericytoma is a rare tumour especially in the oral and maxillofacial region. This case report describes a case that occurred in the left body of the mandible in a 36-year-old Caucasian female who presented with a sudden onset presentation of two weeks of pain and developing paraesthesia. Clinically a palpable mass was present near the left mental foramen and radiographically a radiolucent well-defined lesion was visible. An excisional biopsy of the lesion was performed with histopathology results demonstrating a myopericytoma. The clinical presentation and location of this lesion appears to be different to that shown in previous literature of this type of tumour. While previously this type of neoplasm has not shown malignant tendencies, given how poorly understood this lesion is, close clinical surveillance is required. The patient recovered well with no recurrence at 6 months and will continue to be monitored at regular intervals.
