Description
Summary:A polydisperse sample of polymethylmethacrylate with an average molecular weight of 168000 has been fractionated by countercurrent distribution into fractions of different molecular weight using a phase pair prepared from acetone, n-hexane and water. A special automatic countercurrent distribution centrifuge was used. The method gives the molecular weight distribution. The resolution of the method is discussed. The average molecular weight calculated from the distribution curve corresponds to the weight average measured in the unfractionated methacrylate.
