New records of Pseudoscaeva meridionalis (Fluke, 1951), Eristalinus (Eristalodes) taeniops (Wiedemann 1818), and Toxomerus politus (Say, 1823) (Diptera, Syrphidae) to Chile, with updated distributions for the New World according to citizen science
Introduced syrphids are increasing their distribution in the New World, and Chile is one of the most impacted countries. Here, we report new localities in Chile for Eristalinus (Eristalodes) taeniops (Wiedeman, 1818), Toxomerus politus (Say, 1823), and Pseudoscaeva meridionalis (Fluke,...

| description | Introduced syrphids are increasing their distribution in the New World, and Chile is one of the most impacted countries. Here, we report new localities in Chile for Eristalinus (Eristalodes) taeniops (Wiedeman, 1818), Toxomerus politus (Say, 1823), and Pseudoscaeva meridionalis (Fluke, 1951) and provide updated distributions and new records of these species in other New World countries. We discuss the potential negative impacts of these exotic syrphids on native species in Chile and highlight the power of opportunistic recording in detecting exotic species. |
