Description
Summary:This text contributes to the history of the sociology by a local monograph. It investigates the conditions of institutionalization of the first university educations of social science in Montpellier at the end of the 19th century. Two sequences are described. In the first one, Comte cannot develop his positive philosophy. In the second, open the first teachings of social science with Vacher de Lapouge and Gide then Bernès and Bouglé. Besides its historiographical dimension, this article reports the extreme sensibility to the local bibliographic and institutional contingencies of the emergent scientific organizations. It illustrates finally a situation of turning point when an unpredictable appointment transforms durably the situation of the sociology from Montpellier.
