| Summary: | To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Nordic journal Barn, we conducted a systematic literature review of all articles published in the journal, starting from the very first issue in 1983. In this article, we focus on the intersection between childhoods published in the coded articles and the politics of knowledge production at play in Nordic childhood research. The notion of ‘the published child’ is used as an analytical tool to explore absences and presences with regard to childhoods, methods and topics represented in the articles. Through engaging with child as method as an analytical orientation, we raise questions about the borders of child research over time, asking whether some presences and absences explored can connect with, reflect and possibly curtail knowledge production on childhoods in the Nordic region.
